Every comparison page says when to buy the other one
A comparison page written by the seller is worth reading only if it is willing to lose the sale, so each of ours ends with the case for the other product. That is not modesty. A shop that moves across and then discovers a missing essential costs us a refund, a bad review and the time of whoever has to answer it — an honest page is cheaper than an unhappy customer, and it is the only kind worth writing.

What BillCountr is actually for
Billing at a counter where a customer is standing in front of you, in a shop whose connection is not reliable, where a good part of what you sell goes on udhaar. Everything about the product follows from those three facts: work is written to the phone before it is sent anywhere, invoice numbers are decided on the device so they stay consecutive offline, and credit is tied to the bill that created it rather than kept as a running total.
Android at the counter, web dashboard for the owner
Offline as the default path, not a fallback mode
Udhaar settled against specific invoices
Free plan; paid plans add staff accounts and more items

What it is not for
There is no accounting suite, no balance sheet, no payroll, no CRM and no loyalty programme. It does not generate e-invoices or e-way bills, does not file GSTR returns, does not track batch numbers or expiry dates, does not collect money from your customers, and runs on Android and the web but not on iOS or Windows. Several of the products below do some of those. If one of them is a requirement, that decides it.
Which billing app is best for a small shop in India?
It depends on three things: whether you bill at a counter or invoice remotely, whether your connection is reliable, and whether you sell on udhaar. A counter shop with a weak signal and regular credit customers is what BillCountr is built for. A business invoicing clients by email is better served by Swipe or myBillBook, and a shop that needs accounting in the same product should look at Vyapar.
Is there a genuinely free billing app for shops?
Several, including this one. BillCountr, Vyapar's Android tier, Swipe and the khata apps all have free plans a one-person shop can work on. The cost usually appears at the same place: when a second person needs to bill at the same time. Compare the plan you would actually be on, not the headline.
What does offline-first mean, and does it matter?
Offline-capable means the app has a mode for when the network is gone. Offline-first means there is no other mode — every bill is written to the device first and sent afterwards, so nothing in the sale waits on a connection. It matters if your shop is in a basement, a crowded market or anywhere the tower gets congested in the evening.
Can I try one without moving my whole shop?
Yes, and it is the sensible way to do it. Run a fortnight of billing in parallel, or start with one counter. Your stock figure will only be right in one place while you do, so pick which one that is and stick to it.
Do you pay for these comparisons or get paid for them?
No. There are no affiliate links, no sponsorships and no relationship with any of the products named here. The links to their sites carry nofollow and open in a new tab, and that is the extent of it.
All product names are trademarks of their respective owners. BillCountr is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by any of them.
