Swipe alternative

For the shop where the customer is standing in front of you.

An honest comparison for Indian retailers weighing BillCountr against Swipe — including payment collection and e-invoicing, which Swipe does and BillCountr will not.

What you need to know

Where the two products actually differ.

01 · Job

An invoicing app and a shop app are answering different questions

Swipe is built around producing a document fast and getting it to someone — invoice in seconds, share on WhatsApp, attach a payment link. That is the right shape for a business that invoices people who are not standing in front of it. A kirana counter has the opposite problem: the customer is right there, the bill is a receipt rather than a document to chase, and what happens after it matters more — stock moving, khata updating, the day's total being right.

  • Search or scan, quantity, payment, save
  • Stock and the customer's balance follow from the bill
  • Thermal receipt layout as well as A4
  • Day-end summary after your own closing hour

02 · Payments

We do not collect money from your customers

Swipe sends payment links and QR codes and collects over UPI and other modes. BillCountr deliberately does not: it prints your own UPI ID and bank details on the bill and stops there. Money between a shop and its customer should not have us in the middle, and a shop that is paid directly is a shop with nothing to reconcile and no settlement delay. If collection inside the app is what you want, Swipe does it and we never will.

  • Your UPI ID and bank details printed on the bill
  • Cash, UPI, part payment or udhaar recorded on the bill
  • No payment links, no settlement account, no cut
  • Nothing between you and the person paying you

03 · Offline

The number on the bill is decided before anything is sent

Fast online invoicing is fast until the connection is not there. In BillCountr the bill, its stock effect, its ledger effect and its invoice number are all settled on the device first. That last one is the part most products get wrong: a number allocated by a server has to be renumbered or skipped when the phone was offline, and a gap in a GST series is what an assessing officer looks for.

  • A per-user series, counted on the device
  • The server keeps the number the device chose
  • Bills, stock, khata and printing all work with no signal
  • A sync repeated after a dropped connection cannot double a bill

04 · Udhaar

Credit is a first-class part of the bill, not an afterthought

Selling on udhaar is not an edge case in Indian retail, it is most of the relationship with a regular. A bill can go fully or partly on credit at the moment it is made, and a later payment is allocated to the invoices it clears rather than knocked off a single balance. Every rupee owed points at a dated bill with items on it.

  • Part cash, part udhaar on the same bill
  • One payment split across several old bills
  • A payment-by date per customer
  • Printable statement and receipt

05 · Scope

What Swipe has that this does not

Swipe generates e-invoices and e-way bills, produces GSTR-1 and a long list of reports, offers an online catalogue and store, and runs on iOS and desktop as well as Android and web. BillCountr does none of those. If any of them is why you are looking, stop here — that is a straight answer and it saves you a migration.

  • No e-invoice or e-way bill generation
  • No GSTR return generation
  • No online store or product catalogue page
  • Android and web only — no iOS app, no desktop application

Common questions

Questions about switching.

Swipe is free. Why pay for anything?

If Swipe's free tier does your job, use it — we are not going to argue a shopkeeper out of something that works. BillCountr has a free plan too. The question is not price, it is whether you are invoicing people remotely or billing people at a counter, because those want different products.

Can BillCountr take payments over UPI?

It records that a customer paid by UPI and prints your own UPI ID and QR on the bill, so they pay you directly. It does not process or hold the money. That is a deliberate boundary, not a missing feature.

Does it work on iPhone?

No. Android and the web dashboard only. The dashboard works in Safari on an iPhone, but there is no iOS app and the counter experience is built for Android.

Do I get e-way bills?

No. If you move goods that need one, you need a product that generates them.

When should I pick Swipe instead?

If you invoice customers who are not in front of you, if you want payment collection inside the app, if you need e-invoicing, e-way bills or GSTR-1, or if you need iOS or a desktop application.

Swipe is a trademark of its owner. BillCountr is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Swipe. Details above were read from Swipe’s own published pages in September 2026 and may have changed since.
