HSN codes

HSN codes for a medical store.

Packaged medicines go under one heading whatever the form: tablet, capsule or syrup. The rest of the counter is where the codes multiply: dressings, syringes, gloves, test strips, supplements, hygiene products and spectacles each have their own.

01 · Worth knowing

3004, 3003 and 3002 are not interchangeable

Medicines put up in measured doses or packed for retail sale are 3004: tablets, syrups, and injections such as insulin, on prescription or not. 3003 is for medicines not put up in doses, which a retail chemist rarely sells. Vaccines and sera have their own heading, 3002.

Where these codes go on a bill

The code goes on each line of a GST tax invoice, beside the item. In BillCountr it is saved on the item and suggested from this list as you add it; it prints on bills from the Android app once the HSN field is switched on in your bill settings. Bills made on a computer do not print it yet.

  • Saved once, on the item
