What you need to know

What a sarafa counter needs.

01 · Tax

Three percent, which almost nothing else offers by default

Gold, silver and ornaments sit at three percent, a rate most billing apps do not even list because it is outside the ordinary ladder. Choosing jewellery sets it, and the rate picker keeps three percent and the quarter percent for rough diamonds alongside the standard slabs, so a shop selling both ornaments and something at eighteen percent can do it on one bill.

  • GST on, 3 percent, from the first bill
  • 0.25 percent available for rough diamonds
  • Standard slabs still available per item
  • Mixed rates on a single bill

02 · Weight

Grams and milligrams, carried exactly

Quantities take decimals, so 8.375 grams is 8.375 grams. Every amount in the system is held in whole paise and rounded once at defined points rather than at every step, which is what stops a bill drifting a rupee away from the arithmetic a customer does on their own phone while standing at the counter.

  • Units of g, mg, tola, carat, pcs and pair
  • Decimal quantities carried through the calculation
  • Money held in whole paise, rounded once
  • The printed total matches the arithmetic

03 · Trust

A bill that cannot be changed after it is given

In a trade where a single bill can be worth a month of a kirana shop, the fact that nobody can edit one afterwards is the feature. A finalized bill keeps the settings it was calculated with, cannot be altered, and a mistake is cancelled and re-billed with the original kept and watermarked. Every change anywhere in the shop records who made it and what the value was before, in a log nobody can delete.

  • Finalized bills are never edited
  • Cancel-and-rebill, original kept and watermarked
  • Returns as credit notes in their own series
  • Append-only activity log, including for the owner

04 · Honest

What is not built

There is no making-charge or wastage calculator, no purity or hallmark register, no old-gold exchange valuation and no rate-of-the-day feed. Shops handle making charges as an additional charge line and old gold as a discount or exchange line, which works but is manual. If you want those computed for you, this is not that product yet.

  • No making-charge or wastage formula
  • No purity, hallmark or HUID register
  • No old-gold valuation flow
  • No daily gold rate feed

Common questions

Questions from jewellers.

Does it calculate making charges and wastage?

No. There is no making-charge formula or wastage percentage. Shops add them as an additional charge line on the bill, which prints separately, but the arithmetic is yours.

What GST rate does it use for gold?

Three percent, set by default when you choose jewellery, with 0.25 percent available for rough diamonds. Both sit alongside the standard slabs so a mixed bill works.

Can it handle old gold exchange?

Only as a manual line — a discount or an exchange entry on the bill. There is no valuation flow and the returned metal does not enter stock automatically.

Does it keep a hallmark or HUID register?

No. There is no purity or hallmarking register. If that is a compliance requirement for you, you need a product that maintains one.

Are the totals reliable to the paise?

Yes. Money is calculated in whole paise and rounded once at defined points rather than at every step, so the printed total matches the arithmetic rather than drifting a rupee.
